How does an optical microscope work?

Image
A simple microscope has one lens and is essentially a loupe or magnifying glass with a relatively high magnification. A microscope is composed of four important parts - the light producing unit, which uses tungsten-halogen, or arc discharge. This light is collected by the condenser lens, which focuses the light onto the specimen. Presence of condensers makes the image much sharper. The basic modern microscope found in schools, hospitals, and research centers is a compound microscope which has a series of lenses to collect and focus the light transmitted through the specimen. The optical or light microscope uses visible light transmitted through, refracted around, or reflected from a specimen. The objective is the first lens that light from the spcimen passes through. It is the most complex to construct, and is made to have a short focal length. The final lens is the eye piece, which further magnifies the image, and creates an image perceivable by the human eye. The aperture of a micro...

What looks surprisingly different under a microscope?

What looks surprisingly different than one would expect under a microscope ? I’m pretty excited about these pictures. These are few: Have fun! A crystal of ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C, reveals fascinating structures under a microscope. I thought it was a feather or bird's eye. What is Trinocular Microscopes?

Trinocular microscopes are binocular microscopes with an addition port for a camera.  The camera port will require a camera adapter before you can attach your camera.   There are a number of different types of microscopes which have trinocualr heads, a sample of them is shown here.  The best type of camera to attach is a microscopy c-mount camera because this is what all trinocular microscopes are designed to take.  This also means that the c-mount adapters are readily available, inexpensive and will give predictably good results.   You can attach other types of cameras often with excellent results but the adapters are rarer, the outcome is difficult to predict and they are more expensive and non-standard. Trinocular heads come in two forms, one type has a lever to switch the light to the camera and away from one or both eyepieces, the other type have the image permanaently going to both the camera and eyepieces.   Whilst the latter is appealing it does me...
