Today, we received an iPhone 13 with a Wi-Fi issue. Sometimes the Wi-Fi isn't detected at all, or at other times, it has a very low signal. In this article, Phonefix'll share a step-by-step guide on how to fix Wi-Fi issues on an iPhone 13.
Step 1: Diagnosing the Problem
- Disassemble the device and remove the motherboards from the housing
- Apply solder and flux to the 5G antenna to remove it
- Use solder wick and alcohol to clean the area
Step 2: Separating the Motherboards
- Place the motherboard on the JC Aixun iHeater Pro Preheater at 220 degrees Celsius for approximately three and a half minutes
- Clean the traces from the upper layer motherboard, apply flux and solder all around the perimeter
- Use the solder wick to ensure that all the traces are clean and flat
- Check for missing traces using a multimeter on diode mode
Step 3: Testing the Motherboards
- Repeat the procedure with the lower layer motherboard and then use alcohol to clean any remaining residue
- Use a power supply and multimeter to test the two motherboards together to determine if the
issue is a connection problem or if there is another source of the
problem
- Connect the screen and charging port and use the power supply as the battery
- Turn on the device and check for Wi-Fi connections nearby
Step 4: Re-Soldering the Motherboards
- Re-solder the motherboards together using a MEGA-IDEA Motherboard Test Fixture to assist in reconstructing the solder balls
- Apply solder paste on the stencil, clean the leftover residue, and place a cover over the stencil
- Place it on the preheater at 220 degrees Celsius and ensure that the
solder balls are properly shaped and go around the perimeter
- Install the upper motherboard until the lower motherboard on the preheater at 200 degrees Celsius
Step 5: Attaching the 5G Antenna
- Under the microscope, attach the 5G antenna, align the new iPhone 13 WiFi Antenna, and apply heat at 250 degrees Celsius
- Reassemble the phone and bench test to ensure that everything looks good
