iPhone XR Teardown

We picked up one of the iPhone XR to give us a peek inside Apple hardware. We begin this teardown by the removal of two pentalobes screws, the classic on the iPhone.

Remove the small SIM card drawer from the phone. The SIM reader is not soldered and can be replaced, a first on iPhone!

We used here an spatula and a pick to open the iPhone as the same way as on iPhone X, XS, XS Max with screwdriver tool kit.

The majority of the screws present inside this iPhone are of the "Triwing" type. We disconnect the battery for safety. Then comes the removal of the phone screen.

The screen, since it is equipped with LCD technology, will be cheaper to replace in case of breakage.

The battery of this iPhone XR remains maintained by adhesives like the iPhone 8/8 + / X / XS / XS Max, a metal element protected the rear camera, which is easily removable. We've already heard that the XR has the best iPhone battery life yet

The XR battery looks a bit smallish compared with that of the 8 Plus—but these looks are deceiving. The XR battery is thicker, and packs more juice, not less.

iPhone XR battery has a capacity of 2942mAh for 11.16Whr. Removing the FaceID block. The rear camera, meanwhile, is protected by a metal element, easily removable.

The latter includes, like the iPhone X/ XS and XS Max the internal speaker (listening) and proximity sensors / secondary microphone and infrared projector.

The main antenna is on the bottom of the phone. Its removal is done quickly after removing the 6 screws that hold it.

The vibration motor "Taptic engine" comes alone after removing some screws and our darling clip. Disconnect all the layers from the motherboard.

YIHUA 8858 soldering rework station is useful to take off this time the charging connector. The latter is removable only after removing the motherboard. Remove the secondary antenna.

We finish this disassembly by removing the tablecloth power button, vibrate and iPhone volume buttons.
